SUMMARY:Historical Society/ Andy Angstrom: "Finding the World in your Backyard"
DESCRIPTION:This is another lecture in an ongoing series of Thursday nights hosted by the Historical Society of the Town of Warwick. Andy Angstrom is the co-founder and former Long-time director of the Ashokan Outdoor Education Program in Ulster County\, NY. In his retirement\, Andy has been very busy with a number of archaeological digs\, including the discovery of an after-hours bar that served workers during the construction of the Ashokan Water Reservoir in 1908-1910. In his excavation of the site\, uncovered material culture has provided remarkable insights into the leisure time of these workers at the beginning of the 20th century in addition to evidence of the international commerce that supplied this establishment. Finding the world in your backyard is the point in fact\, for Andy discovery liquor bottles and other glass and ceramic containers seemingly produced upon further research from every corner of the world. The narrative that he has developed about this place was also informed by archival work. Come and enjoy this show and tell to match all show and tells!
