Ladies Night Out started out as in store event back in 1996. Colleen Brennan, then owner of "Home Front America" a furniture store held a casual wine and cheese in her shop for some of her "lady" customers. "That year, I remember rolling some special items from my store up the street to her store" says Tim Mullally, Brennans brother who owned and operated Style Counsel on Main Street since 1994 and is the event coordinator for Ladies Night Out . " The following year we decided to stay in our store" says Mullally and by the third year we opened it up to all the merchants and restaurants and made if an official Merchant Guild Event.
An important aspect of the evening, which was established with the help of the Warwick Merchants Guild, was the crowning of our "Queen for A Day". The queen, chosen from a nomination process, is an opportunity for a special lady to be recognized by her family and friends for her generous spirit, caring heart and selfless nature. The winner receives a huge box overflowing with gifts provided by local businesses. The winner is crowned by our esteemed Mayor, Michael Newhard.
Besides the many colorful shops and quality eateries in Warwick participating in Ladies Night Out, offering special discounts, promotions and other "freebies", there are also several dozen street vendors lined up and down our Main Street and on Railroad Avenue. You can expect to see local hair salons providing makeovers and eyebrow threading, massages, henna tattoos and tarot card readings! Also on the Railroad Green there is always a line up of dance performances and fitness demonstrations. Every year a troupe of Belly Dancers show up in full garb! Our master of ceremonies is our DJ who gets all the ladies up and dancing! Usually by 8:00 PM the Village just explodes! Thousands of Ladies (and men) attend this very popular event.
