About Us
GWL Skatepark Corp, (www.gwlskatepark.com) is a fully registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to raising the funds required to build a professional concrete skatepark in Greenwood Lake, NY. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun and controlled environment for skateboarders of all ages to practice their sport and socialize. We believe everyone in Greenwood Lake benefits from the social space of a professionally built skatepark, though the youth were in the forefront of that vision. GWL Skatepark will be built in memory of Dale Hirrel, a popular local youth who loved skateboarding and always dreamed of having a park in his local town. Dale Hirrel was tragically killed in a car accident in 2016, so a large part of our objective is to make that dream a reality and keep the memory of Dale alive.
In April 2021, GWL Skatepark Corp was awarded The Skatepark Project's (formerly the Tony Hawk Foundation) Spring 2021 Project Recognition Grant and was truly honored to have been selected and recognized by such a prolific and respected organization! This Project Recognition Grant adds validity to the advocacy work and energy of GWL Skatepark and its impressive group of local supporters. GWL Skatepark Corp has reached 60% of its fundraising goal, primarily through contributions from the community and local businesses. GWL Skatepark’s partnerships with local government, businesses and local youth has created a unique synergy of advocacy and education, while also creating annual events that are now considered staple events of the community.
